Baby Chicks, Fair Weather, and CBC

It's been a busy week here at Sundance. After all that rain and hail, we've been anxiously awaiting the day when we can get our tractor back out into the field to get it ready for our transplants. We were close yesterday, but a flash hail/rain storm set us back a bit. The sun is shining today, so we should be able to get out there this afternoon or tomorrow, and by Saturday we should have a garden in the ground, or at least most of it!

In other news, two of us recently spent 3 days at the US border waiting for our baby chicks to arrive! We were expecting them on the 30th, so we arrived there on the 30th, only to discover that it was, indeed, Memorial Day in the States! Needless to say, that shut down the postal system, and as a result, our chicks weren't flown to Montana until Tuesday afternoon. Finally, on Wednesday morning, they arrived, and are now safely tucked into their brooders, with surprisingly few losses due to the long delays in shipping. Let's all raise a glass to their health. May they grow meaty and strong and be tasty on the table!

In other, other news (lol), we will soon play host to Bryan Labby from CBC news! He's going to be showcasing the CSA program and our farm. We are very excited about this opportunity for media exposure, and consider ourselves honoured to be picked this year, as it is our first year operating as a CSA farm. Hopefully this is the kind of news our province needs, to start moving towards a local food-driven system. Bring it on, CBC!
